Dr. Rabinder Buttar - President, Founder & CEO
Dr Rabinder Buttar is a highly successful British entrepreneur and the Founder, President and CEO of ClinTec International, a leading global clinical research organisation.
Dr Buttar received numerous business awards in 2010, including the Ernst & Young ‘Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year’, the Institute of Directors’ ‘Director of the Year for Glasgow & West of Scotland’. During 2010, Dr Buttar was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of West of Scotland for her 20 years contribution to life sciences. In 2009, Dr Buttar was named by Real Business as one of Britain’s 100 Most Entrepreneurial Women and was officially congratulated by the Scottish Parliament for contributing to the Scottish economy and building clinical research teams across the globe.
Dr Buttar’s clinical research experience spans more than two decades within major pharmaceutical companies and currently her own organisation, ClinTec. Dr Buttar has transformed ClinTec since its inception in 1997 into a universally respected clinical research organisation with a strong presence in emerging markets and global coverage of over 40 countries across 5 continents. ClinTec has received numerous recognitions, including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, awarded in April 2011. In 2010, ClinTec was ranked by Deloitte as number 27 of the top 100 fastest growing privately owned technology companies in Britain and number 226 out of the top 500 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Having previously obtained a BSc degree in Biochemistry from Glasgow University, Dr Buttar then graduated with a PhD in Immunology in 1988 from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. She served for four years on the board of the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR UK), a key organisation in the UK for the education of clinical research professionals. Dr Buttar is also an Honorary Fellow of ICR UK, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a graduate in Management Studies from Reading University. Dr Buttar currently serves on the editorial advisory board of Scrip Clinical Research and the Journal of Clinical Studies.
Dr. Dianne Kikta - Executive Vice President (US)
Before joining ClinTec, Dianne’s previous experience includes 21 years in Clinical Research at Wyeth (obtained by Pfizer) in Clinical Research. During her tenure at Wyeth, Dianne was involved with Medical Writing, both regulatory and publications; Clinical Document Quality; Electronic Submissions; Clinical Budgets & Finance; Resource Planning & Management; Project Management; Internal & External Communications; Business Continuity; and Clinical Operations.
She held positions of increasing responsibility including Chief of Operations for the combined Clinical Research and Medical Affairs departments, reporting to and functioning as the right hand of the Chief Medical Officer, and culminating as Vice President, Global Clinical Strategic Resourcing.
Bobby Bal - Senior Director, Corporate Development
Bobby Bal joined ClinTec International after being a Management Consultant with Arthur Andersen and Deloitte. At ClinTec, Bobby is responsible for core corporate management activity on a global basis, including market development, alliance management, new service development and investor relations. Bobby has led ClinTec into over 20 new markets since joining as well as leading the definition, development and governance of strategic outsourcing partnerships with several global pharmaceutical companies.
Bobby holds an MBA (with Distinction) from Manchester Business School, a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and a Diploma in Integrated Product Development from the University of Strathclyde.
Gavin McKenzie - Finance Director
Gavin McKenzie joined ClinTec International as Finance Director in 2007 and is responsible for managing, not only the company’s day-to-day finances but also for creating a worldwide group financial structure. With over 13 year's experience in the UK finance sector, Gavin has worked in small and medium-sized enterprises to blue-chip billion dollar companies and has held the position of financial controller within the manufacturing, retail and financial services industries.
Dr. Stuart Grant - Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs & Medical Writing
Stuart joined ClinTec in 2010 as a Senior Manager of Medical Writing and Regulatory Affairs with over 9 years industry experience. He had worked previously as a pharmacology researcher, Medical Writer, and as a Regulatory Affairs Consultant at a global CRO with responsibility for managing Phase I–IV regulatory submissions and study start-up activities. His experience covers several therapeutic and research areas including cardiovascular, respiratory, psychiatry, pharmacokinetics and medical devices.
Since joining ClinTec, Stuart has developed and initiated several Regulatory and Medical Writing processes. His work in Regulatory Affairs has spanned clinical trial application oversight, orphan drug applications, medical device regulations, therapeutic area consulting and clinical development planning. In addition, Stuart’s regulatory oversight has covered several diverse geographical regions including Europe, The Middle East and North Africa, Asia and Latin America. In the Medical Writing department, Stuart has been responsible for developing and finalising protocols, reviewing documents written by his team and developing the SOP suite. In addition to Regulatory and Medical Writing support, Stuart provides daily advice to ClinTec’s Clinical Operations, Costings & Proposals and Business Development departments.
Stuart is a member of The Organisation of Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA), the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) and the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) and holds a PhD in Physiology & Pharmacology.
Grainne Forrest - Director, Quality Assurance
Gráinne has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry and a dedication to quality. With 12 years experience in Quality Assurance, she is a sharp and accomplished individual with excellent awareness of current GCP regulations. She is skilled in a wide-range of clinical audits in all phases of clinical trials, has prepared leading companies for GCP inspection and has a proven track record in Global Clinical Quality Assurance. Under Gráinne's management, ClinTec's Quality Assurance department and offering has gone from strength to strength.
Gráinne is responsible for growing and managing the Global Quality Assurance team and developing and delivering a Quality Strategy for the company.
Gráinne graduated from Strathclyde University in Glasgow with a BSc (Hons) in Molecular Microbiology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Biology and is currently a member of BARQA and the Institute of Clinical Research.
Garrath Read - Director, Global Business Development
Garrath joined ClinTec in 2007 as Business Development Manager with 10 years experience in the healthcare industry. After periods as a Business Development Manager and Associate Director, he was promoted into the position of Global Business Development Director. Garrath now heads up the international business development team with a focus on building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotech and CRO organisations.
Under Garrath’s leadership, the department has gone from strength to strength and continues to expand our customer base throughout the world.
Prior to joining ClinTec, Garrath was a Human Resources Manager for the National Health Service before moving to a healthcare consultancy as divisional manager where he developed a knowledge and understanding of the clinical sector. Garrath graduated from Strathclyde University in Scotland with an honours degree in Marketing and Industrial Relations.
Austin Clark - Director, Global Clinical Resourcing
Austin has over 10 years experience in management and delivery of large scale resourcing programmes in healthcare and other industries. He gained a degree in Marketing from the University of Abertay in Dundee, UK before beginning his career within Recruitment Services in 2001.
Austin joined us from global recruitment agency, Adecco, holding various sales and marketing positions in UK-based offices in Scotland, the South West of England and finally as country manager in Ireland.
At ClinTec, Austin has further developed the Global Clinical Resourcing model on an international basis and manages ClinTec’s relationships with pharmaceutical companies at a senior level.
Austin’s management experience has taken him into a variety of roles varying from Branch Manager, to Operational Management and finally Business Development Manager. Within these positions, Austin gained invaluable international experience within a multitude of areas including training & development, people management, business development and strategic account management. Throughout his career within the Recruitment Industry, Austin has nurtured and strategically account managed a number of large scale outsourced solutions which have secured consistent sales year on year from many global blue chip organisations.
Iain Low - Associate Director, Clinical Operations
Iain joined ClinTec International as Senior Project Manager and currently holds the position of Associate Director of Clinical Operations.
He graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc in Immunology and Pharmacology with honours before embarking on a career within the Clinical Research industry. Iain has over 12 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. This includes five years in Project Management, two of which were also spent as Country Manager of the Nordic Region for a global CRO, and seven years in Clinical Data Management and Study Delivery. Eight of those years were spent working for a global pharmaceutical company both in the United Kingdom and their Swedish Headquarters.
He is experienced working in both pharmaceutical and CRO environments across all phases (I-IV) of clinical trials. He has successfully managed many full-service global trials across multiple therapeutic areas, often within challenging geographic regions such as the Middle East and North Africa.
Iain is responsible for leading and growing the Global Clinical Operations team and developing and maintaining best practices.
